A food for thought on doraji
"Sweets are not healthy but good medicine tastes bitter." There are similar in appearance but different in benefits: platycodin saponins in doraji or ginsenoside saponin in ginseng.
They work differently as a herbal immunity tea. The former grows in sunny hills or fields building up inulin and saponin called platycodins which clears inflammations in respiratory system or internal organs. The latter grows up in shady areas, building up saponin called ginsenoside which boosts metabolism and heartbeats.
In the historical development, Ginseng gained the first royal attention as an immortal elixir and then spread from top to common people. Meanwhile Doraji were firstly used by people as a cold remedy during winters or food source during spring poverty seasons and became a tribute to a palace later.
